As you can see there is a large increase in 1929, this is a product of the Stock Market Crash of 1929. Which resulted in less opportunities for the middle class. This huge spike in unemployment hindered peoples ability to survive in this demanding time period.

This video documents many peoples' lives as children through-out the Great Depression. This interviewer's goal was to depict and get accurate information about life during the Great Depression. Through the series of interviews, you can see the many different social statuses that were present during the Depression. Farmers often had better lives during the Depression because they could produce their own food, but for many, the debt of owning a large farm caused many to have to move. Throughout the course of this interview they tell you that their memories are full of self-entertainment and living a frugal life.
